Forever Ware Pitch
I’m a huge fan of dining out and it’s no surprise that takeout and delivery have skyrocketed since the pandemic closed indoor dining, but what happens to the containers for all that takeout food?
More than 20 billion disposable containers are thrown away each year in the US. And you might be surprised that virtually none can be recycled or composted due to coatings that contaminate compost and leach into your meals.
Hi, I’m Natasha Gaffer, CEO and Co-founder of Forever Ware and my team is working on a city-wide reuse system for trash-free takeout and delivery. We’re diverting valuable resources and pollutants from landfills, streets, and marine ecosystems and reducing your exposure to harmful chemicals identified by the CDC.
By subscribing with us, restaurants get a fleet of reusable takeout containers that are made of steel and silicone that consumers can borrow and return. Containers are sanitized commercially by restaurants before each use and reused thousands of times.
Our containers aren’t just safe for your health and the planet, they’re designed to prevent leaks, insulated to regulate temps, AND it's just overall more enjoyable to eat out of a #realbowl than the old, well, garbage.
We call the system reusables-as-a-service and it includes software and hardware to track customer checkouts, shipments from our warehouses, training and marketing resources, and in some cases, washing services.
Early reports show 25% adoption and increased foot traffic between restaurants in our network. Meaning that customers borrow containers from one restaurant and return them at another when they reorder.
Unlike most of our early competitors that require consumers to download an app, pay for a plan and scan their borrowed containers themselves all before ever trying them, Forever Ware eliminates these barriers to entry with an experience that is provided by the business.
And the market for our product is huge. In the US, three in five consumers order delivery at least once a week. Fifty-six percent of restaurants offer compostable options which is smart because half of consumers report that they are more inclined to buy a product if it is eco-friendly. But research also shows that 60% are unwilling to pay more.
We're excited that our proprietary tracking system makes it possible to offer Forever Ware for the same price as businesses currently pay for compostable alternatives, and it’s free on the consumer side. Forever Ware is a 1:1 replacement for single-use packaging suppliers except our stock replenishes itself as it circulates locally.
We’ve raised $122,000 and diverted more than 6000 containers from landfills. We currently have five pilot partners as well as a waiting list of restaurants and cities. We just launched phase two of our asset tracking software which will give us valuable metrics. And The final phase three will go out in September at which point we’ll switch to sales and scale.
